Edward Donner
1943 – 2023

Edward Donner passed away peacefully at home at the age of 80 on Dec. 6 with his family by his side.

Fondly known as Ed, he was born on a sunny day on May 22, 1943, to parents Lilly and Bob Donner. Ed was raised in the small town of Lac du Bonnet, Man., alongside his sister Dawn where they also mourned the loss of a brother (Bruce) and sister (Roberta).

Ed began working at an early age prospecting for his Uncle John and went on to become an accomplished carpenter. Growing up, Ed had a close-knit family that instilled in him the values of love, compassion and hard work. He also had a great love for the outdoors which he passed on to many.

On March 4, 1961, he married the love of his life Rosalie. They lived in Lac du Bonnet, Calgary, then moved to Rocky Mountain House in 1979, where he was an active member of the small community of Horburg. There they made many lifelong friends and cherished memories. Throughout his life, Ed cherished his family above all else. Ed adored his grandchildren, Crystal (Effie), Josh (Laura), Courtney, Kayla and two great-grandchildren Dallas and Hugh. He took great joy in watching them grow and thrive.

Ed had a countless number of memorable attributes, but the one felt and witnessed most fiercely by those around him was the way he loved.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Rosalie, and three loving children: Lori (Grant Allen), Lorne, Trevor (Lois); grandchildren: Crystal (Effie), Josh (Laura), Courtney, Kayla and two great-grandchildren Dallas and Hugh; his sister Dawn (John Daviduik), their children Nicki (Bobby), Marilyn (Kevin), their large extended family and many friends whom he considered family. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Nothing else can possibly have the same lasting value as love. Not fame, not power, not achievement. When your life is over, if you can say “I have loved,” you will also be able to say “I have been happy.”

Edward Donner died a happy man. Ed’s family will be celebrating his life in the spring of 2024.
