Helen Mary
(Anderson) Morgan
Helen was born on Oct. 4, 1921, in Edmonton, Alta. Her parents and three siblings moved to Nordegg, Alta., when Helen was three and this is where her youngest sister was born. She loved and never forgot her roots in Nordegg. She treasured her walks and camping trips at Fish Lake. In her late teens, Helen attended a brief education of homemaking skills in Calgary, known now as The Lougheed House National and Provincial Historic Museum and Gardens. While she was there, the Anderson family packed up and moved to Rocky Mountain House. Always leaning more towards the country life, Helen met, courted and married the first love of her life, Harold Morgan, on May 2, 1941. They built and lived on their farm south of town, raising four children: Nancy (Rod) Tolonen, Mac (Heather) Morgan, Ken (Darlene) Morgan and Owen (Nola) Morgan. In 2007, Harold went into the Good Sam. Soon after, Helen moved to Columbus Place in Rocky to be closer to him. After Harold Morgan passed in 2009, and due to a necessary relocation caused by a fire at Columbus Place, she came back to the farm to live, until she moved into the Good Sam in 2013.
Helen was also predeceased by both her parents: Marjorie and Evan Anderson; brothers: Mac Anderson and Norman Anderson; sisters: Margaret O’Neil, Joyce and Ike Adams; children: Mac, Ken and Owen; grandsons: Kelly and Dusten; son-in-law Rodney; daughter-in-law Darlene; and all her best friends. Helen is survived by her daughter Nancy; daughters-in-law: Heather and Nola; grandchildren: Kathy and Tom, Tammy and Herb, Val and Bill, Bobbi, Dennise, Kendra and Shayne, Jenna and Jesse. She will be missed also by her 16-plus great-grandchildren, five-plus great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family friends. The family is all so grateful for Helen’s care and the staff at the Good Sam and all the people responsible for her care throughout her long life. There will be a memorial service to be determined at a later date. A donation in lieu of flowers may be made in Helen’s name to The Compassionate Care Hospice Society in Rocky Mountain House, and is greatly appreciated by them.
