Eltje Bos-Oosterhuis
July 30, 1940 – Sept. 6, 2024

Eltje (Elly) Oosterhuis passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.
Born July 30, 1940, in Garrelsweer, the Netherlands, she emigrated to Canada in the spring of 1963, having travelled by boat, train and tractor to arrive in Granum, Alta.

She married Dick Oosterhuis on June 20, 1963, at the Granum First Christian Reformed Church.

She is survived by five children: Frieda (Frank), Trudy, Jantina (Richard), John, and Remko (Jacquelyn) and seven grandchildren: Sarah, Carey, Jeremy, Anneke, Marijke, Saskia and Willem. She has five surviving sisters, a brother, and a large extended family in the Netherlands.

Elly was very active in the local business community and with her church. She ran a successful small business, Elly’s European Footcare, from 1993 to 2020. She loved flowers and adorned the front of her Main Street business with a lovely assortment potted plants. She was involved with the Calvinette program for many years and Friendship Bible classes for over 30 years.

Elly enjoyed many roles during her long life — nurse’s aid, kindergarten teacher, mother, milkmaid, gardener, baker, postie, seamstress, chiropodist, leader in the church, actress. She brought her love of life and adventure to all her roles, encouraging and bolstering all those who worked with her or benefited from her care.

Services will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church of Rocky Mountain House on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024 at 1 p.m. Please refer to their website at firstcrcrocky.ca for information.

Mom loved colour and we ask that all attendees forgo somber clothing in favour of bright, lively colours. We hope to appear as a bouquet of flowers for all to see and be uplifted by.

Donations can be made in her name to Friendship Bible classes, care of the First Christian Reformed Church.
