Jack Sterling Perry
Oct. 8, 1924 – Sept. 27, 2024

It is with immense gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Jack Sterling Perry — of Rocky Mountain House, Alta. — announces his passing on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, at the age of 99 years.

His family and friends know that 99 years was still not enough time with Jack. His vibrant spirit is deeply missed.

Jack was born in Elnora, Alta., the youngest of George Henry Perry and Sarah Harriet (Haddie) Perryʼs three boys. Jack was always full of mischief, with a ready smile and a genuine laugh. This youthful spirit was felt throughout his entire life.

Jack worked on the family farm until he was conscripted to the army at the age of 18. When Jack returned from overseas, he went back to working on the family farm. In 1949, he moved with a friend to Rocky Mountain House and there he started his trucking career. He met and married Mary Wilson in 1951. His first daughter, Jacqueline Faye, was born in 1953 and his second daughter, Donna Carol, in 1956. Jack loved driving truck and was a true gentleman of the road, logging in the winters and paving many Alberta highways in the summers. Jack was actively involved in the Legion his entire life. He loved curling and golfing. He always loved going for a drive.

Jack is survived by his daughter Donna Burton; his grandchildren: Chelsey Borys, Britt Tan (Pierre), Kylie Burton (Elliott Kuss), Jared Burton (Samantha); his great-grandchildren: Zoey and Lennox Borys, Remi and Ryo Tan; and numerous beloved nephews and nieces.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Mary in 1996, his daughter Jacqueline in 1997, and his brothers Norman Perry (Ellen) and Earl Perry.

Jack was one in a million and will be immensely missed by all who knew him. A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, at 1 p.m., at the Rocky Mountain House Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow at the Rocky Legion. An interment of ashes for family will follow at the Rocky cemetery, where Jack will be laid to rest with Mary and Jacqueline.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Stollery Hospital Children’s Foundation.
The family is immensely grateful for the love and care of the staff of the Westview Lodge. The family would also like to thank Dr. T. Ludewig, Dr. D. Dowling, and Dr. K. Rogers, as well as the Acute Care Staff of the Rocky Hospital. Many staff cared for Jack with immense compassion in his final days and, for that, the family is eternally grateful.
