Audrey Joyce Erickson
1933 – 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Audrey Joyce Erickson (nee Driol) on July 22, 2020, with her children at her side. Joyce was born Feb. 22, 1933, in Calgary, Alberta. She grew up in Torrington, Alta., with her siblings Wally, Larry, and Doreen. At the age of 15, she moved to Calgary to work at her aunt and uncle’s grocery store. While living in Calgary, her sister introduced her to Elmer Erickson, and it was love at first sight. Joyce and Elmer were married on June 16, 1956, and lived in Red Deer until 1968 when they moved to the Bingley area near Rocky Mountain House. In 1991 they sold the farm and moved to Rocky. Joyce and Elmer were married for 54 years.
Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many people during her 87 years on earth. She was predeceased by her husband Elmer, her brother Larry, and sister Doreen. Joyce is survived by her brother Wally (Sheila) Driol from Calgary, her sister Joanne (Ron) Slugoski from Sherwood Park, her children Kelly (Vicky) Erickson from Rocky, Douglas from Edmonton, and Janet (Vince) Kittelson from Red Deer. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brett, Krista, Eric, Lauren, Jakob, Lenna, and Amaya, and great-grandchildren Kamryn and Callie.
Joyce had an extremely competitive nature, a sharp sense of humour, and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was an avid gardener, loved knitting, reading, and watching sports of all kinds. She spent her last months at the Good Samaritan Society (Clearwater Centre) in Rocky.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Bredenoord and the staff of the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre and the staff at the Clearwater Centre for their amazing care and attention.
Those who wish to make a memorial contribution in Joyce’s name may do so to the Compassionate Care Hospice Society or the Palliative Care at the RMH Health Centre.
A service will be held on August 12 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home, Rocky Mountain House, Alta. If you are unable to attend due to COVID 19, Mom will know you attended in spirit. It is recommended that all attendees wear masks.
