Lloyd Owen Teghtmeyer
June 25, 1960 – March 17, 2020

Lloyd Owen Teghtmeyer (June 25, 1960 — March 17, 2020) was born in Calgary, Alta., but would have been proud to be known for growing up in Spirit River, Alta., on a homestead with his parents Earl and Beth, and brothers Ken and Alan. He had many fond memories of homestead life and its simplicity and self-reliance. He developed a remarkable ability to fix anything and live off the land. Lloyd had many skills and jobs including working as a lumberjack, a machinist at CFB Calgary, and most recently as a field operator for Canlin Energy near Rocky Mountain House. He always loved teaching if someone was willing to learn. He will always be remembered for his meticulous work ethic and he found a lot of joy in doing something right. No “half-assing” as he would say.
Lloyd was adored by numerous family and friends. His son Bradley who passed in 2009, and his daughter Jill were his pride and joy. He shared a happy marriage to Joy for 30 years and was proud that they could maintain a friendship after their separation a few years ago. His girlfriend Twila and her daughter Sabrina brought him much happiness the last years. They had a plan to move to Vancouver Island to be closer to Jill and their recent project, a 30-foot sailboat “Audacious.” He had many interests and passions. Gardening, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, dog sled racing, trapping, and practical joking (it seems everyone has a few good stories to share).
We are broken hearted to announce Lloyd’s passing at the age of 59. He took his own life, but we want everyone to know that his final note was one of absolute love. We will miss his generous spirit, adventurous and outgoing personality, his wicked sense of humour and even his outspoken opinions.
Lloyd wouldn’t want us all moping around, so we are planning a party in his memory for later this year. Date will be determined at a later time. Please let us all remember this beautiful man for how he lived and not how he died. Less worrying, more smiling. Less judgment, more compassion. Less stress, more gratitude. Less hate, more love.
