Rocky U13 Falmes hosting Tier 2 provincial championship

After five long years, the town is going green as a host of provincial minor hockey finals.
Rocky last hosted provincial minor hockey championships in 2017 when the town displayed green everywhere – the hometown colours.
Now the U13 Teir 2 Flames are welcoming seven other teams as they host the provincials April 1 to 3.
As hosts, the Flames get a bye into the tournament, but head coach Scott Austad stressed that the team has been very competitive in regular season play.
The tournament features two pools of four teams that play a round robin to see who makes the playoffs.
On April 1, Rocky plays High Prairie at 10:30 a.m. and Slave Lake at 4 p.m. On April 2, Rocky plays Trails West at 11:45 a.m.
The playoff semi-finals for the four qualifying teams take place on the morning of Sunday, April 3. The finals are in the afternoon at 3 p.m.
There is no charge at the gates and locals are encouraged to attend the games, enter the contests and silent auctions.
“We welcome all players, families and fans,” host chairperson Rob Sims said in an online post.
“Rocky Mountain House is excited and honoured to be hosting such an exciting experience for our youth,” he proclaimed.
